Are we Independent?
Happy Birthday America, Hooray! We are independent of England and its once oppressive policies. But, as of today are we independent of other nations or are we dependent because of our debt?
America’s independent future will be decided by our energy policies and the reduction of our debt. With the loss of jobs and high gas prices, America is hanging it’s hope as an independent country on politicians, bankers and rich Americans. In year 2011; just like in 1776,” We the people”, must find the hope, leadership and sacrifice that will rebound us as a nation and get this country moving again.
Around the country we will be celebrating our annual independence day the 4th of July. We celebrate with our friends and family having barbecue, watching fireworks and kicking off our summer activities.
But the main reason we celebrate it, as a special holiday, is because it is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We need to remember what is true independence; in truth and in spirit. I wonder what do the signers of the declarations think of us?
Most importantly it’s a time we embrace the country values in spite of all the difficulty we now face as a country.
So on this independence day, let us remember why we celebrate and just how great this country is. Let us not forget all the men and women who are still serving our country by protecting the very freedom we now enjoy. Happy birthday America!
I think we forget the real reason for the 4th of July celebration. I am sure the signers of the Declaration of Independence would not recognize the country as it is today. I am sure those men were brilliant and well intended but the USA as we know it did not exist in 1776. I can’t imagine any of them being able to see beyond the 13 colonies and into 2011.

Yes I agree – our economy is stalled and I’m in direct support of The CIC in raising taxes on the top wealthy Americans – burden the few in support of many, that’s what needs to happen here as the mid to low level wage earners are in no position of offering anything else.
Also, it must be noted for the record that the Republican congress is totally against any raise in taxes for the wealthy…why not? We as voters can send a message to Congress to support the CIC’s tough measures and prevent further dismantling of civil programs especially for those Americans who are unable to earn a decent, livable wage or have sufficient income to support our bloated healthcare costs!
One other thing that needs to be addressed-oil exploration. I think we should inact a halt to all exploration until existing methods which recently are failing (Gulf of Mexico, Yellowstone River) are made stable along with establishing a new ‘oil super fund’ by all the major oil companies which will finance any future failures.
None of the oil companies are allowed to resume exploration untill all have provided to this oil super fund.
